inkling

Terms of use

Inkling is a free developer tool, provided as is. It runs an AI agent on your Mac with the access you give it. These terms are short because the deal is simple: you are in charge of your machine, and we make no promises about what the agent will do on it.

1. Agreement

By installing or using Inkling (the "app") you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not install it, or uninstall it as described on the support page.

2. Licence

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use the app on Macs you own or control, for any lawful purpose, free of charge.

The app binary is copyrighted and all rights are reserved. You may not redistribute, sell, rent or sublicense it, remove its signature or notices, or reverse-engineer it except to the extent that applicable law allows regardless of this term. Inkling is closed source. If that changes, the licence that ships with the source will govern the source, and these terms will continue to govern the app as distributed here.

3. Your Claude Code account

Inkling does not include access to Claude. It drives the copy of Claude Code that you installed and signed in to, using your own paid plan or API key. Your use of Claude through Inkling is subject to Anthropic's terms, privacy policy and usage policies, which you can read at anthropic.com/legal, and you agree to follow them. Anything the agent does counts as your usage on your account. Inkling is an independent tool and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Anthropic.

4. The agent acts on your machine, as you

When you drop a piece on a file, folder or window, Claude Code runs as your user with the permissions you granted. It can read, create, change and delete files, run commands and talk to other apps. You are responsible for everything the agent does on your Mac, including what it does to files you did not mean to include and commands you did not expect.

Inkling asks you to approve actions it believes cannot be undone, shown as a slow throb and an approval chip. This is a safeguard, not a guarantee. An action can be irreversible without being flagged, and the agent can be wrong about what it is doing. Keep backups. Do not bond a piece to anything you cannot afford to lose, and retire pieces (⌃ ⌥ ⌘ .) when you are not watching them.

Do not use the app to access systems or data you are not authorised to access, or in any way that breaks the law or Anthropic's usage policies.

5. Privacy

The app sends two anonymous events and nothing else; it never handles your credentials, files or prompts. The details are in the privacy policy, which is part of these terms.

6. No warranty

The app is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including any warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, accuracy or uninterrupted operation. We do not warrant that the agent's output is correct, that approvals will catch every destructive action, or that the app will work with future versions of macOS or Claude Code. It is early software; expect rough edges.

7. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of the app or from anything the agent does on your machine, including lost data, lost profits, downtime, or costs incurred on your Claude account, whether in contract, tort or otherwise, even if we were told it could happen. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid for the app, which is nothing. Some jurisdictions do not allow these exclusions, in which case they apply to the extent allowed.

8. Updates, changes and ending

We may release updates that change or remove features, and may stop distributing the app at any time. We may change these terms; the current version is always at this address with its effective date, and continuing to use the app after a change means you accept it. You can end this agreement at any time by uninstalling the app. Sections 4, 6 and 7 survive.
